Masizzim Singapore – Korean food restaurant

When I’m visiting Singapore, at 1 point I have no idea where to eat for dinner because too many options there and I somehow always ended up in Orchard Road (and get bored from eating at the same place for each visit). Luckily, I have a friend who lives and work in Singapore so she can tell me the place to eat with reasonable price.

She invited me to a Korean restaurant in 313 Shopping Mall. I was a bit hesitated. A Korean restaurant in Orchard Area? Sounds expensive. But knowing her, she wouldn’t invite me to an expensive place, so it would be okay. We met at 313 Shopping Mall and walked to basement floor where this Masizzim located. It doesn’t look like a Korean restaurant at all. I saw this place before and I thought it was some fancy place.

We sat down and started browsing at the menu right away. Since my friend has been there before, she already knew what to order. She said their rice ball is delicious, so we ordered that. There are different kinds of rice ball but we chose the one with anchovy. We also ordered Tuna Seaweed Eggroll as side dish.

It didn’t take long for the rice ball to come. It is basically just rice topped with seaweed, fish roe, anchovy, sesame seed. The unique thing is we have to mix it by our self. They gave us a pair plastic gloves. My friend offered me to make the rice ball since she likes doing it. Once she done, we began eating! We both were quite starving lol.

The rice ball is very delicious! I LOVE IT! The taste was perfect and it was not fishy. We finished it in no time! Yum! Their tuna seaweed eggroll also delicious. It was soft and tasty.

Another friend of mine came as well, so we took that chance to order another portion of rice ball! Plus deep fried spareribs. It looked interesting when it came. We, Indonesian, like fried food. So this spareribs was awesome looking. Unfortunately, it was just the appearance. We put this dish as least favorite among our other order.

So, I recommend this place if you want something unique and yummy. The price also reasonable. Not crazyly expensive for a restaurant in a mall at Orchard Road. I definitely will come back again! Thank you for showing me this place, Pris!

Ciao!

Ice Lab – Korean Bingsoo In Singapore

After our lunch at Lutong Pinoy, my friend Pris recommended a Korean Ice Dessert. It is on Orchard Road as well and we took a round trip underground to avoid the bright noon sun. I had no idea where it is so I just followed her. We did stop at several places along the way for window shopping.

Apparently, the Ice Shop is located in the front area of 313 Shopping Mall. I saw this place before when I walked back to our hotel the other day, and they were closed already. At that time, I already thought that I should try this place. What a coincidence!

The three of us came in and discussed which bingsoo we want to try. They have many kinds of Bingsoo and they all look yummy! We decided to try their special menu, Coffee Bingsoo! Yup only 1 for the three of us, should be more than enough.

The place was very busy when we came. Most visitors were teenagers or maybe some college students. We had to wait until they have space for us before we could order anything. Once the table was ready, she took our order and after payment, another staff took us to our table.

Not long after, our order is ready! Coffee Bingsoo, looks very delicious and sweet lol. All of us immediately got busy taking photos of this Korean Ice Slush. They also give free water to us, self-service on a special corner for water. After all the “preparation” done, we dug in!

This is like the best Korean Bingsoo I’ve ever tried. The ice slush was very smooth and overall taste was not too sweet. We couldn’t finish it in the end. Maybe if we had the 4th person in the group, we could finish that.

Very recommended for Korean Bingsoo lover!

Osaka Ohsho – Noodle and Gyoza

As a fan of Japanese gyoza (dumpling), I can’t miss out this new place in town. It is located inside the new mall Saigon Center, on 5th floor. It’s one of the shop in Asia Village, some kind of food court with interesting concept. The area is not big though. Osaka Ohsho itself is quite big in area.

I tried to get someone to find seat for me but noone came, so I just picked one of the seat for 2 persons. After a while, the waitress gave me the menu. A set of 6 pcs gyoza is 45k vnd. They have ramen on menu as well, but somehow I didn’t want to try it. They also have set menu.

After contemplating for a while, I decided to try the set that is approved by Japanese (well at least according to them..). It’s a set of gyoza (6 pcs) and Sapporo Beer. I know.. not enough for lunch, but I didn’t want to try their other menu.

It took so long for them to serve the gyoza. I was hungry and already thought “This gyoza better be good, or else…”. Can’t do much anyway if it’s not good, so.. “or else.. I’m gonna eat ramen in Japanese area”.

Looks promising. The bottom was crispy. The skin was a bit too thick for my taste. But the filling is delicious. The composition of meat and vegetable are balanced. I would recommend my husband to try it as well.

Eating good food always made me happy! And this one made me happy.

Thao Dien Coffee – not an ordinary Coffee Shop

UPDATE : They have been closed down 😦

When I first heard about Thao Dien Coffee I thought of an usual coffee shop, where you can enjoy coffee, enjoy small bites (cakes, bread, salad) and no proper meal. I was wrong. They do serve food as well, and they are delicious! I’ll tell you my experience there.

My first visit was on an event organized by Relocation Vietnam for A.R.C (Animal Rescue and Care). Thao Dien Coffee was the venue for that event. That time they only served finger foods, so I couldn’t tell yet about their main course but those finger foods were really good! I needed to wait at the bar to grabbed it before all other guests came and finished it. Yes, they were finished so fast! At that time I had a chance to look around and I must say the place is very relaxing and peaceful. Especially the second floor. So I was thinking.. maybe it’s not a bad idea to hang out here sometime and try their food.

My second visit was for a meeting. We had a meeting there on second floor around 11.00 am and it was perfect time. No one else beside us on second floor. I heard that many families came here on the weekend, so I was a bit worried if it might disturb the meeting. I ordered Japanese Smoothie. It was sooo good! Delicious smoothie with unique taste of black sesame.

After the meeting, it was past lunch time so I needed to have lunch. One of my friend also stayed for lunch, so did I. Time to try the main course!! Most of the menu are for vegetarian. There is also menu for vegan. They don’t serve red meat at all if I remember correctly, only chicken and fish dishes.  I ordered tuna sushi roll. It was really good. Oishi! Delicious! Each piece of the roll was quite big.

My visit didn’t end at that time. Another day after dogwalking, I stopped by as well with my friends. We brought our dogs and sat outside. This time I ordered the sandwich for breakfast. Mushroom and camembert sandwich. Again, it didn’t disappoint me. Yummy food. The mushroom was cooked in garlic, so delicious. Good camembert cheese, and crusty sandwich bread. You have to try it!

I love the food here! Even tho I’m a meat lover, I still enjoy their food. It was tasty and healthier as well than meat.

Recent buying at this restaurant was vegan sushi. It was sushi roll filled with eggplant and teriyaki sauce. Delicious! I like eggplant, and I never found sushi using it so this one made me happy! I didn’t take picture of it because I was really hungry at that time lol, and it was take away order.

So if you are vegetarian or vegan or..just want to try a healthier option of food (but still delicious), you can try Thao Dien Coffee in District 2.
