Eddie’s – New York Diner in Thao Dien Ho Chi Minh City

Lately, there are many new restaurants coming to Thao Dien area, mainly in Xuan Thuy street. But none of them bring the concept of American diner despite of many American living here. Last weekend, it appeared! Eddie’s – New York Diner was having their soft opening. Discount 20% during this period (while they have their staff trained more).

I was invited to go there last Sunday. It was late afternoon and an awkward time to have a meal, so we ordered Cinnamon Roll for share and a homemade soda for me.

I love the smell of cinnamon even though I’m not a big fan of bread. This cinnamon roll was delicious! It was not as sweet as normal cinnamon roll, but I think that is the plus point with many people avoiding sweet stuff nowadays. Overall it was great. I just thought maybe if they could heat it up a bit before serving that would be even better. A warm cinnamon roll, yum!

The homemade soda was also great. I had to move it to empty glass though because the taste was too light with a lot of ice cubes on the glass. It was better after that. I can taste the ginger and orange in it, and was still cold even without ice.

We were looking at the menu and my friend was explaining the names on the menu. Some of them I never heard of since I’ve never been to US nor American diner. Most of the food are meat. There are some salads menu as well. When we reached side dish section, I saw onion rings and I ask her if it’s possible to order it without main dish. We can!

I was so happy when it arrived. Onion rings is one of my favorite snack (although sometime I got sick after eating too many). This onion rings were awesome. The texture of the onion was perfect. The crispy batter was great. The only thing I would recommend is to sprinkle some salt on top of it before eating it. Pour some ketchup, dip the onion rings, and enjoy the crunchy batter and soft onion inside.

Next time I will try their main dish! Have you visited them? What is your favorite american diner dish? Tell me in comment below.

Hungry Pig – all about bacon

Hungry Pig is a restaurant selling burgers and sandwiches in district 1 Ho Chi Minh City. We went there because we read about bacon bar. Bacon Bar! What does it look like? We imagined there is a bar full of all kind of bacon. Hmm.. yummy~ (ok, wipe that drool).

As we arrived there, we saw the place is not big. No air-conditioner, only fan. There are 2 small tables and 1 big table only in the room. We walked to the cashier to order. Looked around but didn’t see bacon bar ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

After we finished ordering the food, we sat on one of small table. On the wall we saw posters with ‘bacon’ names on it, like kevin bacon, or this poster below.

Nice one haha. Really all about bacon.
Someone from the kitchen came out bringing a big plate, pasta plate. I was wondering why he has that plate on his hand, is it his food?! And my question answered in seconds haha. He ate something on it while looking at the street. Then he walked back to the kitchen, while eating! Lol. Walked leisurely while eating his food. Meanwhile our food took ages to come.

They gave us our drink first. My husband ordered orange juice but they gave him lime juice. I checked on the bill and it says lime juice. He even mentioned orange juice 2 times when he ordered, but the cashier still put lime juice lol. It is weird if their english is bad since the location of restaurant is backpacker area. Maybe she was just daydreaming when she took our order xD

Larue beer

And this beer is my order. I wanted to drink beer. The taste is very similar to Bintang Beer in Indonesia, which I don’t like 😐

Our sandwiches came. Time to open the wrap.

Bacon-aise

This one is my order, Bacon-aise. A baguette filled with lettuce, bacon and mayo. It was good.

I didn’t take photo of the other sandwich. It was panini with some chili bacon and cheese. Tasted not bad. The panini bread was good.

So in the end we knew that bacon bar means they serve many types of bacon, but not displayed. They have delivery service as well.

MAD House – a European style Restaurant in District 2 Ho Chi Minh

“Can you take me to MAD House in District 2? Last time i attended farewell party there”, and the driver know it already. It was 2 months ago when i came to this place, to say farewell to my German friend. She is a very good person and good partner for dog walking. I remember at that time the food here was really good. It was a tapas style dinner, so i got to try many kind of dishes. The view also very good. It’s a European style restaurant, and i really like it.

He ordered MAD Burger and MAD Beer, while i ordered Danish Fish Cake and MAD Soda’s Coconut & Lime. And of course i didn’t forget to order Crispy Taro Chips.

While waiting, i took some pictures of the place.

After some time, our chips and drinks came. MAD Beer has a passion fruit in it, and MAD Soda’s Coconut & Lime was good as well. This chip is my favorite! It’s thin and very crispy, and the sauce is really good. Dip the chips in the sauce and i can’t stop eating!
