Soi 19 Thai Wonton Noodle – my favorite noodle

I’ve seen this noodle place at Upper Thomson shophouses area and been wanting to try it out but was not sure if they’re good (I didn’t check any review as well lol). But looking at their pic, the noodle seems very appealing to me. After I heard it from my friends, I decided to try it.. And WOW! I Love it!

The texture is springy, the original sauce is great AND every single topping is yummy. The wontons, chasiu, fish sausages, even the fried lard are also yummy (too bad they are very little though..).

This noodle has become my favorite noodle in Singapore now! If you haven’t tried it, you should!

Sushi & Sashimi – Takashimaya Saigon Center

Have you heard about the sushi place in Takashimaya with no seating but has a good sushi? If you visited Saigon Center Mall on basement floor, you would probably see people standing eating sushi. And maybe even wonder why would they do that. Does the sushi come from Annam Store there? Nope. I finally found the place (which actually is not hard to find…)

The place called Sushi and Sashimi. Very clear about what they are selling! The shop is not big but it has several cooler storage for the sushi. The variant of sushi and sashimi also very good. They will let you know if they have a fresh fish shipped for the day. They also have promotion on certain items. My favorite is unadon (grilled eel on top of rice). On promotion day, it costs me 99k vnd. and normal price is 129k.

Their sushi is really fresh and yummy, also affordable price. No wonder a Japanese friend was recommended this place to me. They don’t have any seating, so you have to find a place to eat after you pay. Or you can do it like me, take it home 🙂

Have you tried it as well? What do you think of this place? Let me know in comment below.

Ciao!

Banh Mi Huynh Hoa – for meat lover!

Banh Mi is one of thing I would miss from Vietnam when I left. I like this bread very much, and especially they filled it with meat and vegetables inside. Banh Mi is a Vietnamese Sandwich. The bread looks like French Baguette but they are not the same. I like banh mi better than baguette, because of the crunchiness of the skin and the softness inside. If you are visiting Vietnam then banh mi is one of the food you have to try.

There are many banh mi sellers in Ho Chi Minh City. You can find it almost everywhere, on the side of the street or even in fancy restaurant where the price is very high of course. Last week I had visitor and they wanted to try banh mi. I brought them to Banh Mi Huynh Hoa in district 1. It is located at 26 Lê Thị Riêng street. We were just finished visiting the museum and we were hungry at that time, around 3.30 pm. I saw on google that this banh mi opened at 2.30 pm. Good chance to try it!

When we arrived there, there were several people in queue. But don’t give up by the sight! They were very fast in preparing and serving the banh mi. A guy asked me in Vietnamese how many banh mi I want to buy. I said two. Their price is higher than other banh mi seller. Usually the price ranges from 10.000 vnd to 17.000 vnd, but this one costs 32.000 vnd. I saw many kind of meat in their cart.

They don’t have space to dine-in. You have to take it elsewhere to eat it. In our case, we went back to our apartment. Once at home, I took a plate and a knife, cut the banh mi to several pieces because we would like to share. And of course didn’t forget to take picture 😀

I must say this is the best banh mi I’ve ever eaten in Saigon. It had a lot of meat, perfect seasoning, good amount of vegetables as well. Just perfect! I will buy this again (and of course will recommend it to my friends).

Most of the meat (or even all of the meat!) are pork meat. My husband didn’t like it though, because it had liver pate too inside. He doesn’t like pate, and inside the banh mi there was quite a lot of pate for his taste. That’s too bad 😦

Anyway… this banh mi is a must-try. The price is worth it for that much meat filling. They are open from 2.30 pm til 11.00 pm. Will go there again next time.

Lunch at Benh Thanh Market

Yes! Finally I had a chance to try having lunch at Benh Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City. There is 1 area in the market that is full with food stall. Many of them can speak English, simple one, but still it’s nice to be able to communicate.

There were many options to choose and I didn’t know which one of them has a good food. So the only option were looked for a busy food stall or something you like. My friend saw a noodle stall and wanted to try it out. I saw the menu (with no price on it) and saw something I might like.

Chicken Fried Noodle

Chicken fried noodle. This simple dish is pretty good. It has a bit of sweetness. I would prefer a bit saltiness though xD It wasn’t a fried noodle actually, just dried noodle. It came with soup. The seller said it was soup for after meal, but I ate it during meal. Pour a little bit to my noodle as well to make it loosen.

For the drink, there was another guy asking us what drink we want. I ordered chanh muoi, or salted lemon juice. Always love the taste!

In total, we spent 145k vnd, for 2 noodles and 2 drinks. The noodle was 50k vnd each. Quite expensive eh? But it was a nice experience for us 😉 Maybe next time we will try another dish. Who knows.
