Lunch at La fentre Soleil (Tahu Telor, Soto Betawi, Rawon)

This afternoon we were craving for some Indonesian food, even though we just came back recently from Jakarta! Luckily, we have La Fenetre in Saigon. They have a good Indonesian meals so it can fulfill our craving.

For lunch today, we ordered dishes that we’ve never tried before here. They were Tahu Telor (fried egg and tofu with peanut sauce and petis), Soto Betawi (beef in coconut milk soup) and Rawon (Indonesian Beef Black Soup).

Rawon at La Fenetre Saigon

Soto Betawi La Fenetre Soleil Saigon

All dishes were delicious. It did lack of richness compared to the original one in Indonesia. But I think it is because they adjusted the taste for foreigner. I posted about this on local foodie facebook group and the owner of the restaurant explained about this “lack of richness”. She said “Yes we cut on coconut milk for Soto Betawi as it is too rich for most of people also for “petis” on tahu telor as it is quite strong for non Indonesian for the smell and flavor.” Just as I thought!

Overall the taste was delicious, especially the sambal. They gave different sambal for different dish! Tahu telor was a bit spicy for me, but definitely will recommend this one to my friends since they like this kind of dish and spicy food. For rawon and soto betawi, I don’t think it will be interesting for them to try because most of them don’t like eating meat. Although…they ate Fried Chicken here lol. But mostly because of the galangal that was used as one of the spice for it.

Have you been to La Fenetre? What is your favorite dish there? Let me know in comment.

Ciao.

The Loop

I have been to the Loop for several times, and my favorite dish there is Chicken Caesar Salad. They make it really good. The veggies are fresh, the chicken is tasty, and bacon is crispy and crunchy. Yum! So this time I decided to try another menu.

I went there with my friend and she ordered Fresh Mint Ice Coffee. It was really good! I never tried it before and I fell in love with it. The coffee are made into ice cubes. Recommended!

Fresh Mint Ice Coffee

I ordered Salmon Roll. When I read the description, I didn’t think this dish was big portion. Okay they did mentioned many things there, but I thought it’s small portion. But look at this! Really big portion. I finished it though .__. And it’s worth the price. Very yummy as well. Spinach, cream cheese and salmon.. mmmm.. Then add the potato hashbrown, and then fresh salad with dressing. Happy tummy!

Lunch at Benh Thanh Market

Yes! Finally I had a chance to try having lunch at Benh Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City. There is 1 area in the market that is full with food stall. Many of them can speak English, simple one, but still it’s nice to be able to communicate.

There were many options to choose and I didn’t know which one of them has a good food. So the only option were looked for a busy food stall or something you like. My friend saw a noodle stall and wanted to try it out. I saw the menu (with no price on it) and saw something I might like.

Chicken Fried Noodle

Chicken fried noodle. This simple dish is pretty good. It has a bit of sweetness. I would prefer a bit saltiness though xD It wasn’t a fried noodle actually, just dried noodle. It came with soup. The seller said it was soup for after meal, but I ate it during meal. Pour a little bit to my noodle as well to make it loosen.

For the drink, there was another guy asking us what drink we want. I ordered chanh muoi, or salted lemon juice. Always love the taste!

In total, we spent 145k vnd, for 2 noodles and 2 drinks. The noodle was 50k vnd each. Quite expensive eh? But it was a nice experience for us 😉 Maybe next time we will try another dish. Who knows.

Pasta @ The Vintage Emporium Ho Chi Minh City

My second time to The Vintage Emporium Saigon was for lunch again. But this time I was late. I arrived after the lunch-combo menu hour end 😦 It was around 2 pm. So me and my husband decided to try out their pasta.

Linguine alla Genovese

My husband ordered Linguine alla Genovese. It was okay. The taste was not bad, but not special either. I tried it a bit and the pesto taste was very light.

Fettuccine Carbonara

This one is quite good. Fettuccine Carbonara. I added cheese and a little salt though. But it was actually a good dish without adding anything else. I was just in the mood for salty food that time.

London chips

We ordered this for appetizer. The potato is yummy. The chili has a weird taste, but it’s not spicy.

I think for economical reason, it’s better to come for lunch combo. 99k vnd for lunch combo (food and drink), compared to 120k vnd for the pasta only. If the pasta is really special, I don’t mind to spend that much. Good thing they always give free drinking water with refill.
