Chicken Wings @ B-Dubs Ho Chi Minh City

B-Dubs is one of the sports bars that is located at Thao Dien street. I’ve always wanted to try their chicken wings because I heard they are really good. Today is finally the day! I went there with my friends, unplanned.

I ordered chicken wings snack portion (5 pcs) but I didn’t know which flavour should I get. They have A LOT of many flavours from sauce-based to dry one, from mild to very spicy. I didn’t want spicy chicken wings, that’s for sure. So I asked the waitress her recommendation. She suggested Buffalo from the dry version. I ordered that.

It came with veggies and an option of blue cheese dip or ranch dressing. I chose blue cheese. After a while, they came out. I couldn’t wait to dig in, so I did.

It was a right decision! It was salty chicken wings and a little bit spicy. I’m not a fan of sweet food. The meat was tender and it’s just made me want more and more! Dangerous…

I will come back and try their other flavour, for sure!

Happy Mooncake Festival! – Cherry Garden Mooncake Four Treasures by Mandarin Oriental Singapore

Today, October 4th, is the celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival. Or for easier way, some people call it Mooncake Festival. In Vietnam, majority of people celebrating it today by eating mooncake and drinking tea. I have no idea about the details on this festival. The only thing I know is about how each mooncake has salted egg yolk, because it represents the moon.

When I visited Singapore last week, I met my friend and she gave me a huge box of mooncake! It is from Mandarin Oriental Singapore. The box is very pretty and neatly made. Good thing that we were able to bring it back home to Vietnam! I love the box.

Inside the box, there are 4 pieces of mooncake. I have no idea what flavor for each one of them. From what I found on their brochure on the internet, for this Cherry Garden Treasure Box, they consists of 1 piece of Low sugar silver lotus paste with double yolk, 1 piece of Low sugar silver lotus paste with single yolk, 1 piece of Sea salt caramel with single yolk and pecan nuts, and 1 piece of Pandan with dried cherries and pistachio. They all have their own box and sat nicely inside the beautiful treasure box.

The first mooncake I ate was sea salt caramel one. Immediately fell in love with it. It was the best mooncake I’ve ever tried! Sadly there is only one for that flavor. Today I opened another mooncake box and it has 2 egg yolks, so it must be the Low sugar silver lotus paste with double yolk mooncake. Before I read about it on the internet, I thought it was mungbean flavor. Oops!

Lotus paste one is also yummy. I like the low sugar concept that is different than most of other mooncake I’ve tried before. The dough and the filling are both complete each other.

The downside about this mooncake from Mandarin Oriental is their price. For this cherry garden treasure box, they cost SGD 83.5 (including tax). They also selling individual flavor as a box of 2 and 4. You can see the detail on their brochure.

What I don’t know is whether this treasure box only for this year or also for the coming year. Their flavor possibly will be the same next year. They were starting to sell this mooncake since August, so better plan your craving for next year 😉

Ciao.

Osaka Ohsho – Noodle and Gyoza

As a fan of Japanese gyoza (dumpling), I can’t miss out this new place in town. It is located inside the new mall Saigon Center, on 5th floor. It’s one of the shop in Asia Village, some kind of food court with interesting concept. The area is not big though. Osaka Ohsho itself is quite big in area.

I tried to get someone to find seat for me but noone came, so I just picked one of the seat for 2 persons. After a while, the waitress gave me the menu. A set of 6 pcs gyoza is 45k vnd. They have ramen on menu as well, but somehow I didn’t want to try it. They also have set menu.

After contemplating for a while, I decided to try the set that is approved by Japanese (well at least according to them..). It’s a set of gyoza (6 pcs) and Sapporo Beer. I know.. not enough for lunch, but I didn’t want to try their other menu.

It took so long for them to serve the gyoza. I was hungry and already thought “This gyoza better be good, or else…”. Can’t do much anyway if it’s not good, so.. “or else.. I’m gonna eat ramen in Japanese area”.

Looks promising. The bottom was crispy. The skin was a bit too thick for my taste. But the filling is delicious. The composition of meat and vegetable are balanced. I would recommend my husband to try it as well.

Eating good food always made me happy! And this one made me happy.
