Ramen Ryu-Shin – Nha Hang Mi Nhat Ryu-Shin

It was a rainy afternoon and I wanted something soupy and yummy for my lunch. Ramen it is! Now the question is should I go to my favorite Ramen Danbo, or should I try the new place, Ramen Ryu-Shin. To be honest, I’m not sure if this place is new or just had a renovation, but if my memory don’t fail me then it is a new place.

Ramen Ryu-Shin

The rain has stopped when I departed from my apartment. I walked pass Ramen Ryu-Shin and saw it was crowded and the place is small as well. Oh well, maybe just have lunch at Ramen Danbo as usual. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?! cos I’ve been wanted to try another place), they were closed today! I walked back to Ramen Ryu-Shin and braced my self up to open the sliding door and entered the restaurant.

There are 7 people sitting at the bar area, all seats taken. Then I saw a girl on the left area but she said it was full there as well. At least I now know that there are another space to sit there! The area with table.

I waited for a while until someone finished their food. One of the foreigner at the corner left the restaurant so I sat there at his place. All other 6 people also left not long after..

A waitress gave me menu book. They have a lot of soup type! There are chinkan ramen, chicken based soup and pork based soup (tonkotsu). Each of them has option of shio (salt) or shoyu (soy saouce). They also have spicy ramen and super spicy ramen! I bet my close friend in Bandung will love it. And one more ramen that is rare to find in Ho Chi Minh City, which is Tantan Ramen. It looks spicy though (and it supposed to be spicy anyway).

I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen with Marinated Egg, flavor was salt (shio). While waiting for ramen to come, I took picture of the place. Should have taken more photos.. I was too shy to do it 😦

Shio Tonkotsu Ajitama Ramen

The Japanese chef served my noodle through the counter. This is it, the moment of truth. The noodle looked promising, even though there was no option to ask for how firm the noodle. The soup was thick and oily. I dig in and loved it! It was a bit salty at first, but later on it got better. Maybe because I didn’t mix it very well, or because of my tongue got used to it already lol. One thing I didn’t like was the pork. It was hard to cut and chew. It was not melted in my mouth!

The total with tax was 154k vnd. More expensive than Ramen Danbo. And taste wise it wasn’t that great compared to Danbo. Maybe next time I will try their tantan ramen. But overall it was a delicious ramen. If you want a different type of noodle then it is good to go to Ramen Ryu-Shin. Or if you want another kind of soup (not the pork based one), it is recommended to try as well. Their spicy ramen also interesting to try!

Thanks for reading.

Ciao.

Mam Bac – Vietnamese Restaurant

The other day I went to Bitexco Financial Tower to meet up with my husband, then we planned to have dinner. He brought me to a Vietnamese Restaurant near by. It is called Mam Bac. Located at 94 Ho Tung Mau street, very close from Bitexco.

He said the bun cha here is good, so we ordered one. Another dish we ordered was com tam suon nuong opla (broken rice with grilled ribs and fried egg). For the drink I ordered kumquat juice.

And he was right! Everything we ordered was delicious. The price also reasonable as well for prime location. Definitely a good choice to have lunch or dinner if you are in the area.

My favorite pasta at Pizza 4Ps

Everyone here knows pizza 4Ps (maybe not everyone but at least most of the people know about it). It is very famous especially among foreigner, but there are many local people eating there as well. Their pizza is excellent. Made with special recipe and baked perfectly. I like most of their pizzas. But do you curious about their pasta as well? I did. That’s why we sometime order pasta and pizza for 2 persons, and of course their camembert cheese as well.

From few of the pasta I’ve tried there (except for the one with tomato sauce), I have 2 favorite there. The first one is clam and basil in pesto sauce. To be honest this pasta is not as good as before when I first tried it, but it still better compared to others. I would say this pasta is my 2nd favorite one.

Clam and Basil in Pesto Sauce

My number 1 favorite there is Cheese and Pepper Pasta. In Italy, they call it cacio e pepe. I tried this type of pasta when I was in Rome. It is a very simple look pasta, but delicious! And even though it looks as simple as aglio olio, the process to make it is not that simple. Trust me, I’ve tried (and failed 😦 ) It uses 2 types on cheese, and need to be mixed at the right time to make it still al dente after mixing. And pizza 4Ps nailed it! I love this pasta very much. You should try it as well if you are a cheese lover (or even if you aren’t, just try it! It won’t hurt ;)).

What is your favorite pasta in Pizza 4Ps? Do you have the same one as me? Please let me know in the comment so I can try it as well.

Ciao!

UPDATE :

October 2016 – They don’t have Cheese and Pepper Pasta anymore 😦

Ganh – Vietnamese Restaurant

There are a lot of Vietnamese Restaurants in District 1 Ho Chi Minh City. From a very local place with cheap price to a fancy restaurant. Ganh is one of the medium level I think. It is located in 91 Hai Ba Trung, near the city center. Good location indeed. It is a Nha Trang food restaurant. So if you want to try the food from central Vietnam, you don’t need to go there (unless you have time to travel there of course). It’s not as good as the authentic food from Nha Trang but it’s already yummy enough!

I’ve been here one time and I love their Nem Nuong. It came with various items on a big bamboo plate (?) To eat this, you need to make a roll with lettuce leaf. Spread the lettuce and put the grilled pork, leaves, cucumber, mango, carrot, Β and crispy rice paper on top of it, then wrap it all together. Dip it in the sauce and enjoy! Very delicious~

This time we also ordered another dish (sorry I forgot the name! >.<) It consists of spring rolls (cha gio), rice noodle (the white thing on the center. I know.. it doesn’t look like noodle) and some veggies. This dish also yummy. You should try the rice noodle. It’s unique and it is delicious!

Last dish we ordered was disappointing. Oyster omelette. My husband couldn’t ate it because it was too fishy. Even me who like fishy food also couldn’t ate it. Another thing was this omelette so bland, no taste. Just fishy from egg and oyster. They came with soy sauce, but it couldn’t be helped. Tasted really bad. We didn’t finish this one.

Have you tried the food from central Vietnam? How do you find the food? Do you like it? Tell me in comment!

Tama River Review – First Try

Tama River is a Japanese restaurant located in 14E1 Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. It might be hard to find it if you don’t know Thao Dien area (like what was happened to me because my driver didn’t know the way and almost drop me off at another building). Luckily, my friend told me before the way to get there. It is down to residential area opposite of Mekong Merchant. Or when you see Mon Hue restaurant, just go to the street next to it. Some people also don’t know Mekong Merchant and I know exactly that I can’t depend on google map (It is shown at different place). Yes, I was lost before 😦

As we came in, there were not many people on the first floor. Only 2 tables had customers. There is a stair to next floor but I didn’t check the 2nd floor. They gave us 2 kind of menu. One menu was the ala carte, and the other was set menu. The ala carte menu has pictures on it, although not all the food has picture. At least it helps you to choose the dish. But the set menu doesn’t have any picture, just a list of set menu with its description. Would be nice to have some pictures on it, or even all! πŸ˜€

I went there with my husband and we both ordered the set menu. His order was Sake Sashimi and Gyu Saikoro Suteki Set (Salmon and Beef), and I ordered Katsu Curry Rice Set. We waited for quite some time, not as quick as we thought, but it was still okay. I was still standing, hasn’t fainted yet…

Sake Sashimi and Gyu Saikoro Suteki Set

The set menu for this dish is including Chawan Mushi, Miso Soup, Meatball and Rice. I really like their Chawan Mushi (steamed egg). It was just like a normal chawan mushi (Yes, I’ve been trying other chawan mushi lately at other restaurants and they tasted weird!). It has chicken, naruto and mushroom at the bottom. Even my husband liked it! He is not a fan. The Salmon Sashimi was good. It was fresh and came with big chunk. Meatball and miso soup were also good. The disappointment was on the beef. It was hard and a bit chewy.

Katsu Curry Rice Set

This was my order. I liked them! I finished it all πŸ˜€ The katsu was made from pork fillet, so not much fat on it. They fried it nicely, still crunchy but not overcooked. Curry sauce also delicious, a bit spicy but I could still handled it. I especially like the red thingy on the rice. I don’t know what was it, but it made the combination of katsu and rice taste really yummy. Too bad they only gave a little. Maybe I could ask for more? Hmm let’s try next time πŸ˜€

For me, this restaurant is quite good. But! For people who lives in central area maybe it will less tempting because of the distance. There are several good Japanese restaurant as well in district 1.

For people in district 2, I think this is the best Β Japanese restaurant there. I will go there again, since I often stay a bit longer at district 2. I want to try another set menu πŸ˜€

Tama River opens from 11.00 am to 2.30 pm, and from 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm.
